“Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.”

That’s the God I met on the mountain

…from the movie, Alive

After 20 years, you analyze a lot. You remember people, heroism. “The Miracle of the Andes”, that’s what they called it. Many people come up to me and say that had they been there, they surely would have died. But it makes no sense, because until you’re in a… situation like that… you… you have no idea… how you’d behave. To be affronted by solitude without decadence or a… single material thing to prostitute it elevates you to a spiritual plane, where I felt the presence of God. Now, there’s the God they taught about me about at school. And there is the God that’s hidden by what surrounds us in this civilization. That’s the God I met on the mountain.” (from the movie, Alive)

Swim Rafts and Birds

Looking for ideas on how to keep the birds off a swim raft. Just spent an hour cleaning of the swimming raft, after it was very covered with bird poop.

Here is the raft BEFORE – gross.

After cleaning…looked much better, but there must be a better way.

Swagman Bike Box

Got this brand new Swagman bike box off eBay for $25 shipped. It will be perfect for commuting to work. I can put my work clothes into the box and keep them from being squished, and keep them dry and clean as I ride. It was very easy to install on top of the rack, only took a few minutes. The box has 2 clips on each site to keep it closed, and also comes with a lock (which I won’t need).

I really like this picture. The blurred lights, and the reflections off the street. The overall lighting – just before dark…

What is WordPress

This is the best free blog platform I have found.

WordPress is suited both for business and personal use, and is a marked improvement on any of the free platform/host options. The presentation is extremely professional, ultimately customizable and easy to use. There is an abundance of support in the form of forums, faq’s etc. for the WordPress platform, on the off chance that you’ll need it, and oh yes and its still free!

Now to cover just some of the features of Wordpress:

- All the code is in full compliance with the standards of the W3C.
- WordPress allows the creation of non-blog, or normal web pages, that share the same theme but do not use a blog interface.
- Links are easily created and modified through the easy to use administration interface.
- Next, changes to templates are replicated immediately on your blog, which means static pages do not have to be republished.
- Design is made easy with themes and templates being effortlessly installed, from an abundance of different sites. There are also style and theme switchers.
- Features such as trackbacks, pinging, comments, spam protection, user registration, password protected posts, multiple authors etc etc etc
- Also of note is the ability to add plugins, which allow you tweak about anything.

As mentioned above, this is a free platform, in which you can manipulate the code as you please.
